Alzheimer’s Prevention Initiative

alzheimers brain scanThe idea that a devastating disease like Alzheimer’s could actually be prevented prior to onset was not even on the public’s radar when we began our work with Banner Alzheimer’s Institute (BAI) in 2011. Initially, many in the scientific field were convinced that it could never be done.

BAI hired The Reis Group to craft a multi-faceted campaign to raise awareness of the concept of preventing Alzheimer’s through the launch of the Alzheimer’s Prevention Initiative (API), an international collaborative of clinical, academic, and patient advocacy groups–supported by the National Institute on Aging, and major foundations. API created an online registry dedicated to recruiting volunteers for pioneering clinical trials, and thanks largely to The Reis Group’s effort, membership in the Alzheimer’s Prevention Registry is already approaching 260,000 volunteers.
