Medication Safety

Acetaminophen and NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are present in more than 1,400 over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription medicines. Taking more than the recommended dose of these common, family-friendly medicines can unwittingly lead to serious health complications, including severe damage to the gastrointestinal tract.

The Reis Group works alongside the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) on a nationwide public health education campaign to promote safe use of OTC pain medicines and to help Americans be critically aware of and avoid the harmful side effects of overdose, which include stomach bleeding, ulcers, liver damage, and even death. The campaign primarily targets women and chronic pain suffers, and leverages AGA’s 16,000-member constituency to encourage smarter, safer use of OTC pain medicines.
