Calling for transparency in setting reimbursement rates
The gastroenterology societies — American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy — were faced with negative media attention questioning the cost of colonoscopy and the integrity of gastroenterologists who perform the procedure.
They recognized the need to counter this negative coverage with positive information about their members and their commitment to patient care, as well as the value of colonoscopy in saving dollars and saving lives. The societies joined forces to tap our team to reinforce for policymakers and the public the value of colonoscopy and the highly trained specialists who perform them.
Our team worked with the societies to conduct message testing among key stakeholders. Results from the message testing helped shape the creation of key campaign materials, including an issue brief, FAQs, and campaign website.
This campaign helped to delay the cuts to physician reimbursement fees and raise awareness of the benefits of colonoscopy and the special training of gastroenterologists.
